Russia-Ukraine War : Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has given up his insistence on joining NATO. But he has offered security guarantee on the same condition and now it remains to be seen how Russia reacts to this. Meanwhile, news has also emerged that European leaders will soon extend their support to Ukraine, because they are under pressure from Washington to quickly accept the US-mediated peace agreement. In this series, after the talks between American ambassadors and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Berlin on Sunday, Ukrainian and European officials will discuss Russia’s aggression.
Gave up the insistence on joining NATO
President Zelensky on Sunday met with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner at the German Federal Chancellery to somehow end the four-year war. Washington has tried to understand the demands of both sides for the past few months and Trump is also continuously insisting that the war should be ended quickly. At the same time, Zelensky said on Sunday that if America and other Western countries give Kiev the same security guarantees as NATO members, then he will give up his country’s efforts to join NATO. Ukraine has flatly refused to accept America’s pressure to hand over territory to Russia.
Will the Soviet Union be established again?
At the same time, Russian President Putin wants Ukraine to withdraw its forces from the part of the Donetsk region that is still under its control, which is one of the main conditions for peace. The Russian President has described Ukraine’s attempt to join NATO as a major threat to Moscow’s security and a reason to launch a large-scale attack in February 2022. The Kremlin has also demanded that Ukraine abandon its bid for alliance membership as part of any possible peace deal. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer have together spoken of supporting Ukraine. He said on Saturday that the decades of Pax Americana are largely over for us in Europe and Germany. These European countries warned that Putin’s aim was to bring about a fundamental change in the borders of Europe, to establish the old Soviet Union within its borders.
