India-America Relation: India has been purchasing oil for many years. Now America is claiming that India can cut oil after President Trump’s request.
India-America Relation : A high delegation is discussing the trade deal between India and America in America and meanwhile, there is a ruckus regarding the purchase of Russian oil. Meanwhile, the White House claimed that India has started reducing its oil purchases from Russia on the request of US President Donald Trump. White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt said that if you look and read the sanctions imposed on Russia, they are very stringent. She was referring to US sanctions imposed Wednesday on Russia’s two biggest oil companies, Rosneft and Lukoil, as part of US efforts to block key revenue sources for Moscow amid the Russia-Ukraine war.
Will India reduce the purchase of Russian oil?
Caroline Levitt claimed that I have seen some international news which shows that China is continuously reducing the purchase of oil from Russia. We also know that India has also done the same after President Trump’s request. Levitt further said that Washington has also consistently urged its European allies to reduce oil imports from Russia, thereby putting pressure on Moscow to end the war by any means necessary. The Trump administration has been claiming for some time that India has assured that it will significantly reduce its oil imports from Russia.
India will take care of its interests
However, India has been saying that its energy policy will be based on its national interests. It is primarily motivated by ensuring affordable and safe supply to its consumers. America says that by buying crude oil from Moscow, India is helping President Vladimir Putin in financing the Ukraine war. Trump doubled the tariff on Indian goods to 50 percent and an additional 25 percent tariff was imposed on buying oil from Russia. Relations between New Delhi and Washington are under serious strain. India has described the American action as unfair and imprudent. Leavitt said Trump had long signaled that he would take action against Russia, especially when necessary. For now, Trump has considered taking steps towards a peace agreement.
