CEC Gyanesh Kumar: While the opposition is continuously protesting regarding the SIR, the Election Commission has made preparations for the SIR to be held in the second phase. Now its process will start from November 4.
CEC Gyanesh Kumar: The second phase of Voter List Revision (SIR) is going to start from November 4 in 12 states and union territories. Earlier, when SIR was done in Bihar, there was a lot of uproar and the opposition alliance INDIA had also protested by taking out Voter Adhikar Yatra. Also, during the election campaign, Rahul Gandhi had made many serious allegations against the Election Commission. Now as the work on the second phase is about to begin, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said that SIR in Bihar was a purification campaign and a milestone in the building of Indian democracy.
Revision of 51 crore people
Addressing the gathering at the foundation day of IIT-Kanpur on Sunday, the Chief Election Commissioner said that the world’s largest voter list purification drive was conducted in Bihar alone and when the drive reaches 51 crore voters across 12 states, it will be a historic achievement for the Election Commission and the nation. The Election Commissioner further said that when this process is completed in the entire country, then we will be proud not only of the Election Commission but of the democratic strength of India. Let us tell you that the Election Commission had recently announced that it will conduct SIR in 12 states and union territories including Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and West Bengal between November and February. Meanwhile he said that I have come here only because my mother wanted. I respect my mother’s wishes and my four years at IIT Kanpur were unforgettable.
Got new experience in IIT
Gyanesh Kumar further said that the notes and votes of the country are in the hands of both the IITians (RBI Governor and Chief Election Commissioner). He further said that the values that I have imbibed at IIT have always guided me in my administrative life. He expressed confidence that Bihar elections will set new standards of transparency, efficiency and simplicity. Will become a model for democracies. Apart from this, he recalled the early days of his wife and said that learning to swim in the Ganga at the ghats of Kashi, studying at Queens Inter College in Varanasi, various types of jobs and then getting higher education in Lucknow before taking admission in IIT Kanpur has been a commanding experience.
