Yamuna Water Level: Since Tuesday, people living in the monastery and Vasudev Ghat area are facing difficulties after entering their homes and shops.
Yamuna water level: The water level of Yamuna continued to rise on Wednesday due to heavy rains in Delhi and upper areas and release of water from Hathinikund and Wazirabad barrage. Water started penetrating in the morning in Delhi’s monastery market and Vasudev Ghat. The shopkeepers said that the warning given by the administration on time was effective, because they removed their belongings before the water was damaged. Shopkeeper Raju said that yesterday he said that water can come here by 12 noon. Throughout the day we removed everything. The situation was really bad in 2023, but this time the administration had already warned us, so we removed all our belongings. Since Tuesday, people living in the monastery and Vasudev Ghat area are facing difficulties after entering their homes and shops. Residents have been forced to change their place.
Old railway bridge closed for traffic
Officials said that more than 7,500 people have been evacuated from the lower flooded areas as the water level of the Yamuna river increased by 207 meters at the old railway bridge (ORB) on Wednesday. Those who were evacuated have been held at 25 places where relief camps have been set up. The affected people have been transferred to relief camps at 25 places, including tents, schools etc. The Yamuna river in Delhi crossed the withdrawal mark on Tuesday, as the water level was recorded at 206.03 meters and has been increasing since then. As soon as the water level increased, the people living in the low -fledged areas were taken out by the district officials and the old railway bridge (orb) was closed for traffic. An official of the Central Flood Control Room said that the reason for the rising water level is mostly a large amount of water released from Wazirabad and Hathinikund barrage.
Traffic on Outer Ring Road affected
On the other hand, Delhi Traffic Police on Wednesday announced traffic change in view of the rising water level in the Yamuna river at Vasudev Ghat. Due to this, the movement of vehicles on Outer Ring Road from Majnu Ka Tila to Salimgarh bypass has been affected. According to the police, traffic on Wazirabad-Signature Bridge and Chandgi Ram Akhara-IP College Red Light will be diverted through alternative routes as the Outer Ring Road and surrounding parts are expected to be huge congestion. Vehicles will not be allowed on the affected parts and their route will be changed accordingly. Passengers have been advised to avoid affected routes and plan their journey in advance. The police have also urged the drivers to avoid roadside parking as it disrupted traffic. Consultation states that emergency vehicles will be given free route at all times. Also, passengers should follow the instructions of traffic personnel posted on the ground. Vehicle drivers have also been requested to be patient, follow traffic rules and cooperate with the police.
