CM YOGI: CM Adityanath reviewed the revenue performance of the tax department and talked directly to the zonal officials through a video conference.

CM Yogi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday stressed that the field posting in the state tax department will be fully demonstrated. Instructed that only the officers with a commitment to achieve a clean image and goal should be given a role. CM Adityanath reviewed the revenue demonstration of the tax department and talked directly to the zonal officials through a video conference. Officials told the Chief Minister that by September of the financial year 2025-26, the State Tax Department had collected a total of Rs 55,000 crore, including Rs 40,000 crore from GST and Rs 15,000 crore from VAT/non-GST sources. The collection during the same period last year was Rs 55,136.29 crore. Adityanath stressed that Uttar Pradesh should become a leading contribution in the National GST collection through well -planned efforts.

There is no unnecessary raids on Dhanteras and Diwali

He said that after recent reforms in GST, the market has shown positive speed, which is expected to appear more in the coming months. He also instructed the officials to avoid unnecessary inspection or raids during Dhanteras and Diwali. He emphasized that traders and entrepreneurs should not face any harassment. During the review meeting, it was informed that areas like Bareilly (64.2 percent), Saharanpur (63.7 percent), Meerut (63 percent), Gorakhpur (62.5 percent), and Jhansi (62.1 percent) performed relatively better, while some areas achieved only 55-58 percent of their goals, which showed the correction. Adityanath reviewed Varanasi-I and II, Gorakhpur, Prayagraj, Ayodhya, Lucknow-I and II, Kanpur-I and II, Etawah, Jhansi, Agra, Aligarh, Aligarh, Moradabad, Meerut, Ghaziabad-I and II, Gautam Buddha Nagar and Saharanpur.

Accountability fixed on unsatisfactory performance

Officers were asked to explain the reasons for the divisions with revenue collection less than 50 percent and prepare the immediate corrective action plan. The Chief Minister expressed satisfaction that there is no division in Bareilly, Jhansi and Kanpur-I areas where the tax collection has been less than 50 percent. However, he directed to fix accountability for unsatisfactory display areas. He emphasized that revenue growth is the foundation for the state’s economic progress. He called upon all the officials to work with 100 percent determination to achieve the goal.

Advice to increase GST registration

Adityanath urged senior officials to personally visit markets, mapping markets, meet traders and understand their expectations. Giving an example, he said that the farmers have benefited from reducing the mandi duty and also increased revenue, which proves that a transparent and simplified tax system always gives positive results. He emphasized continuous engagement with the business community and directed that efforts to increase GST registration and time to file returns should be intensified. The meeting also reviewed the progress of matters related to fake firms and fake input tax credit (ITC) claims.
