Zero Honor Run: This race symbolizes the spirit of unity, endurance and patriotism. The Governor paid tribute to the 1962 war heroes.
Zero Honor Run: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lieutenant General (retd) KT Parnaik flagged off the ‘Zero Honor Run’ on Sunday. It was organized by the Army to pay tribute to the heroes of the 1962 India-China war. Starting the race from the Central Dry Ground at Zero in Lower Subansiri district, Paranayak said the race symbolizes the spirit of unity, endurance and patriotism, according to an official statement. Paying tribute to the 1962 war heroes, he remembered Rifleman Neelam Tebi, who was martyred in the conflict. Encouraging the youth of Arunachal Pradesh to dream beyond the borders, Paranayak said that India will host the 2030 Commonwealth Games and aspire to the 2036 Olympic Games.
Emphasis on discipline, education and healthy lifestyle
He urged the young athletes to aim for global excellence and become torchbearers of the Tricolour. Governor Paranayak called for collective resolve against social evils like alcohol and drug abuse. He advocated discipline, education and healthy lifestyle. He emphasized that sports are important for nation building. Sports teach people resilience, humility and courage. Later the Governor presented medals and checks to the winners of 21 km, 10 km and 5 km races. More than 800 runners including Army, Air Force and Indo-Tibetan Border Police personnel, NCC cadets, students and civilians from the state and other parts of the country enthusiastically participated in the event.
Remembered the bravery and sacrifice
The Governor said that about 100 women runners participated in the race in different categories. Tekeshwar Kurmi won the 21 km event for men (under 30 years), while Sameer Koleye won the men’s (50 years and above) event. Makakamayum won the women’s (under 30) competition. Tailayan Hari emerged as the winner in the 10 km event for men (30-35 years category), while Renu Loi won the women’s event (30-35 years category). Tapuk Veshi won the 5 kilometer children’s category. The Army organized the Shaurya Motorcycle Rally and Zero Honor Run ahead of National Unity Day on 20 October to honor the spirit of the armed forces and national unity displayed during the 1962 war. On this occasion, the Governor said that in this race everyone remembered the bravery and sacrifice of Indian soldiers.
