15 people protesting against pollution arrested

India Gate Protest: Delhi Police has arrested 15 people who were protesting at India Gate against pollution. Police say that during the clash they attacked the police with pepper spray.

India Gate Protest: Delhi Police has now expressed anger among the people regarding the increasing air pollution level in the national capital. Angry people demonstrated at India Gate on Sunday evening. Within no time the protesters clashed with the police. Policemen have taken 15 protesters into custody. Police say that during the clash he attacked the police with pepper spray. The police have arrested him on charges of attacking, obstructing government work and blocking the road.

People were protesting against pollution

An official said on Monday that the situation worsened during the protest on Sunday when some protesters allegedly used pepper spray on policemen. According to a senior police officer, protesters had gathered near India Gate demanding action. Later the police officers removed them. Some protesters entered C-Hexagon and tried to cross the barricades. We tried to explain to them that many ambulances and doctors were stuck behind and needed to be evacuated, but the protesters got angry.

Attacked with pepper spray in the clash

The officer said, “The protesters did not agree and crossed the barricades and sat on the road. When our team was trying to remove them, some protestors used pepper spray on the policemen. Three or four policemen were injured and are being treated. DCP New Delhi Devesh Kumar Mahala said, “It was very strange. “This is the first time that protesters have attacked traffic and law and order officials in this manner.”

Delhi’s air is a serious risk

Delhi Coordination Committee for Clean Air said in a statement that the city’s deteriorating air quality poses a “serious risk” to public health and alleged that authorities are failing to address the root causes of pollution. It further alleged that the air quality remains in the severe category, while the government is relying on “cosmetic measures” like water sprinkling, cloud seeding and sprinkling near Air Quality Index (AQI) stations instead of finding long-term solutions to tackle the problem.
