IPS Puran Kumar suicide case: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, in his first public comment on the case related to the suicide of an IPS officer, on Saturday assured justice to the family of the deceased. 2001 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Y. Puran Kumar (52) allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself at his residence in Sector-11 on Tuesday. He left behind a final note. The BJP-ruled Haryana government is facing criticism from the opposition over the suicide of an officer and leaders are demanding an independent investigation into his death. Addressing a gathering of BJP workers in Panchkula, Saini said Kumar’s family members have told him that they want justice.
Action will be taken against the culprits
The Chief Minister said that I have said that we will investigate the matter and action will definitely be taken against whoever is found guilty, no matter how big a person he is. He further said that he has spoken to the IAS officer wife of the deceased, Amneet P Kumar. He said that we are also in touch with the Center to resolve this issue. Saini asked the opposition parties not to do politics on this issue. He said that if the family of the deceased feels that injustice has been done to them, we will ensure justice. The Chief Minister stressed that the family will get justice. Describing Puran Kumar’s death as unfortunate, Saini said he had asked two officers to return to India from Japan along with the deceased’s wife when he received information about her husband’s demise. Amneet Kumar had gone on a three-day tour of Japan with CM Saini. During this time her husband had shot himself in Chandigarh.
Six-member SIT will investigate
The wife has alleged that her husband’s death was the result of harassment by high-ranking officials. After returning from Japan, Saini met Amneet Kumar here and expressed his condolences. Chandigarh Police on Thursday registered an FIR on charges of abetment of suicide under provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act based on the last note of the deceased officer. In the eight-page final note, Puran Kumar has named several senior IPS officers, especially Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) Shatrujit Kapoor and Rohtak Superintendent of Police (SP) Narendra Bijarnia, for harassing and defaming him. Chandigarh Police on Friday constituted a six-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) for a speedy, impartial and thorough investigation of the case in a time bound manner. Chandigarh Inspector General (IG) Pushpendra Kumar will lead the SIT.
