Sacred relics of the Buddha : So far 90 thousand devotees have come to see the display of a part of the holy relics of Lord Buddha installed in a monastery in Kalmykia, Russia. These remains were originally kept in the National Museum and were brought to Russia by a special Indian Air Force aircraft, arriving in Elista, the capital of the Republic of Kalmykia, on October 11. A part of the exhibition was followed by a temporary visit to Elista’s main Buddhist monastery known as Gaden Shedup Choekorling Monastery, also known as the Golden Abode of Shakyamuni Buddha.

Manoj Sinha reached Elista

The Indian Ministry of Culture had earlier said that it is an important Tibetan Buddhist centre, which was opened to the public in 1996 and is surrounded by the Kalmyk plains. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha arrived in Elista on Friday and will lead an Indian delegation to bring back the holy relics to India on October 19. While talking to local media after paying tribute to the remains, he said that this exhibition will strengthen relations between the people of India and Russia. An impressive exhibition of spiritual devotion and shared cultural heritage has received an unprecedented response in Russia’s Republic of Kalmykia.

Manoj Sinha received a grand welcome

Let us tell you that the holy relics of Buddha were earlier to be displayed as part of an exhibition in Kalmykia from 24-28 September. Sources had said that this delay was due to some unexpected logistical and technical circumstances. The statement said that on the arrival of Manoj Sinha, he was welcomed by the First Deputy Chairman of the Government of Kalmykia Tserenov Erdani Nikolayevich, Deputy Chairman Dzambinov Ochir Vladimirovich and India’s Deputy Mission Chief Nikhilesh Giri. The sacred relics, considered national heritage of India, were brought to the capital Elista with a high-level delegation led by Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya and senior Indian monks.
