International Airport Dhaka: A massive fire broke out in the cargo complex of the international airport in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka on Saturday. Due to which all flights were postponed.

Officials said that due to the fire, dense black smoke had engulfed the area. There is no news of any casualty. The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) said the fire broke out at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the afternoon, following which more than two dozen fire fighting units were deployed. Additional teams reached the spot to extinguish the fire. Fire service spokesman Talha bin Jassim said that we received the information at 2:30 pm and we immediately dispatched our units along with the units deployed at the airport.

He said that 36 fire fighting units are engaged in this operation. CAAB officials said Air Force fire units also joined the rescue operation. A CAAB spokesperson said that landing and takeoff of all aircraft have been postponed until further notice. All our aircraft are safe. At least nine flights of different airlines that had landed in Dhaka were diverted to Shah Amanat International Airport in south-eastern Chittagong and Osmani International Airport in north-eastern Sylhet. Eight of them landed in Chittagong and one in Sylhet. According to local media reports, the chemicals stored in the cargo zone posed a major challenge for firefighters.

Smoke and smoke in the surrounding areas

Eyewitnesses said personnel of the Army, Air Force, Navy and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) joined the fire fighting and rescue operations. He described the fire as a major incident, with a large part of the airport and surrounding areas covered in thick smoke. This is the third major incident of fire in Bangladesh within five days. An eight-storey factory building in Chittagong Export Processing Zone (CEPZ) was completely destroyed in a massive fire on Thursday. There have been no casualties. On Tuesday, 16 workers were killed and several others injured when a fire broke out at a four-storey textile factory and a chemical warehouse in Dhaka.
