Gopashtami celebrations: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said on Thursday that cow devotees should run a public awareness campaign for the safety of cows. He said that serving cows is everyone’s moral responsibility. He appealed to the people not to leave cows on the roads and to actively participate in the efforts to make cow shelters self-reliant. Citizens urged to use products made from cow dung and cow urine. The Chief Minister announced to give Rs 21 lakh to Shri Krishna Gaushala Karnal from his discretionary fund. Saini was speaking as the chief guest at the ‘Gopashtami’ ceremony organized at Shri Krishna Gaushala Karnal. Before this he performed cow puja and inspected the medical facilities provided for the cattle in the cow shed. While wishing Gopashtami, he said that this holy day of the country’s eternal tradition connects people with culture, brotherhood and compassion.

Social and spiritual importance of cow

He said that Gopashtami is not just a festival but a symbol of kindness, service and sense of duty. Saini said that cow has both social and spiritual importance and it has always been associated with wealth and prosperity. He said that in ancient times, a person’s wealth was assessed by the number of cows he had. Cow is considered a divine and spiritual creature and is revered like a mother. Cow’s milk is considered like nectar. He claimed that scientific studies have proved that milk from desi cows is extremely beneficial for health. Saini said that the BJP government has taken many initiatives for the development of cow shelters, conservation of cattle and promotion of natural farming. Eleven years ago, the Gau Seva Aayog used to get a grant of only Rs 2 crore, but after BJP came to power, this amount has been continuously increased. He said that the government has now allocated Rs 600 crore for cow conservation and promotion.

Stamp duty on land registration abolished

He further said that in 2014 there were 215 registered gaushalas in the state, housing 1.75 lakh cattle, while today there are 686 gaushalas, housing more than 4 lakh cattle. Saini said that the government is also providing electricity to cow sheds at the rate of Rs 2 per unit. Stamp duty on land registration for cow shelters has been abolished. He further said that in cowsheds with more than 3,000 cattle, a veterinary doctor is deployed once a week, while for smaller cowsheds, Veterinary Livestock Development Assistants (VLDAs) are appointed. Mobile veterinary services have also been made available. The government has already decided to provide Rs 10 lakh per cow shed for construction of shed. He said that till now sheds have been built in 51 cowsheds and work is going on in others. Under the Rashtriya Gokul Mission, steps are being taken for the conservation and improvement of native breeds. He said that the government is also working towards making cow shelters self-reliant by promoting products made from cow dung and cow urine like natural phenyl, organic fertilizers, cow dung utensils, lamps, soaps, earthen pots, incense sticks.
