The majority figure in the 243-member assembly is 122. Exit poll estimates are made by election survey agencies based on interviews with voters as they come out after casting their votes. These may differ widely from actual results. Whereas the NDA, which has BJP, JD(U) and LJP (Ram Vilas) as its main coalition partners, is looking to return to power in Bihar. The opposition Bharat Bloc, in which RJD, Congress and Left parties are the main constituents, is looking at RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav to form the government with its chief ministerial face. Bihar provisionally recorded its highest ever voter turnout of 67.14 per cent as polls closed on Tuesday in the second and final phase of the high-stakes elections, which is being seen as a de facto referendum on the state’s longest-serving Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
