Maurya also said that the prosecution will review the verdict and may consider filing an appeal if it feels the punishment is inadequate.

A case of fraud was registered in Rampur.

BJP leader Akash Saxena had registered a case at the Civil Lines police station in Rampur in 2019 under IPC sections 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), 471 (use of forged document) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy). According to the prosecution, Abdullah had obtained a PAN card from the Income Tax Department which showed his date of birth as January 1, 1993, which matched the date of birth recorded in his school and high school certificates. The same date was also used in the records of the State Bank of India account maintained by him. The court held that Abdullah, in conspiracy with his father, had obtained the fake PAN card and submitted it in the official records. Samajwadi Party (SP) founding member Azam Khan came out of Sitapur jail on September 23 after almost 23 months of imprisonment.

There were two PAN cards of different dates of birth.

BJP leader Akash Saxena had filed a case against Abdullah in Rampur on July 30, 2019, accusing him of fraud and violation of the Passport Act. He was accused of obtaining travel documents by using a false date of birth. According to the complaint, Abdullah was issued a passport on January 10, 2018. The date of birth recorded in the passport is September 30, 1990, but in his educational certificates it is recorded as January 1, 1993. Saxena had also lodged an FIR against Abdullah and Azam Khan at the Civil Lines police station in Rampur on December 6, 2019. He alleged that Abdullah had given wrong PAN number in his election affidavit during the 2017 assembly elections. Saxena also accused Azam Khan of being a cheater and a liar. He claimed that the senior SP leader fraudulently got two PAN cards made for his son to contest the elections. According to him, Abdullah allegedly hid this fact in the affidavit submitted to the Election Commission of India. Abdullah showed one PAN number in the affidavit, but used another number in his income tax return documents.
