Nagrota Assembly By-election: After withdrawing the claim of Congress on Nagrota Assembly seat, now there is a direct contest between National Conference and BJP. Congress said that such a decision was taken keeping in mind the alliance.
Nagrota Assembly By-election : By-election is going to be held on Nagrota Assembly seat of Jammu and Kashmir and for that, Congress has decided not to contest this election. Meanwhile, Congress has given this seat to National Conference and both the alliance partners had fought in the assembly alliance last year. Meanwhile, after the National Conference refused to give a reserved seat to the Congress for the Rajya Sabha elections, the alliance started going through a difficult phase. Let us tell you that elections are to be held on four Rajya Sabha seats of the Union Territory on October 24. Meanwhile, by-elections have been organized in Nagrota and Budgam assembly on November 11.
Seat vacant after death of BJP MLA
Nagrota assembly seat had become vacant after the death of BJP MLA Devendra Singh Rana on October 31 last year. Apart from this, Budgam seat was retained by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah after he won two assembly seats in his family bastion Ganderbal and after that the other one became vacant. Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma said in a statement that Congress has decided to give the Nagrota assembly seat to its ally National Conference, keeping in mind its broader interests and goals of defeating the BJP. At the same time, amidst differences with Congress over seat sharing in Rajya Sabha elections, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said on Thursday that if Congress has a better candidate for Nagrota then we are ready to compromise on it.
Competition between BJP and National Conference
At the same time, Ravinder Sharma said that the decision not to contest elections from Nagrota assembly seat has been taken after detailed discussion on a report of JKPCC. Also, it has been said in this report that in the Assembly elections 2024, National Conference stood second on Nagrota seat, in such a situation only NC can give a better candidate there. The Congress spokesperson further said that keeping in mind the broad parameters of the alliance, the central leadership of the Congress has decided to give it to its ally party keeping in mind the broader interests and the goals of defeating the BJP. Let us tell you that BJP has fielded Devendra Singh Rana’s daughter Devyani Rana on this seat and Devyani will file her nomination from this constituency on Saturday. Apart from this, Devendra Singh Rana had won the Nagrota seat in the Assembly elections 2024 by a record margin of 30,472 votes and he defeated his nearest rival National Conference Joginder Singh and got 17,641 votes on this seat.
