Donald Trump: US President Donald Trump has warned that if India continues to buy crude oil from Russia, it will have to pay heavy duty. Donald Trump reiterated that he has received assurance from Prime Minister Narendra Modi that India will stop buying oil from Russia. Speaking to reporters in ‘Air Force One’, Donald Trump said that if India does not stop buying oil from Russia, then it will have to keep paying heavy duty. He said that India does not want to do this. Donald Trump was responding to a question about India’s recent comments on buying oil from Russia.
Trump’s claim- India will not buy Russian oil
India said last week that it was broadening and diversifying its sources of energy procurement in line with market conditions. A few hours before this, Donald Trump had claimed that Modi had assured him that India would stop purchasing crude oil from Russia. Donald Trump said that he does not think that India made any such comment. The US President said that I do not think he has said that. No, I have spoken to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and he has said that he will not buy Russian oil.
Accused of helping Russia
America says that India is giving financial assistance to Putin in continuing the war against Ukraine through the purchase of Russian crude oil. Relations between India and America are going through a tense period after the Trump administration’s decision to impose 50 percent tariff on the import of Indian goods for the purchase of Russian oil. Out of this, 25 percent duty has been imposed due to purchase of crude oil from Russia. On the other hand, India said that it is not going to bow down to anyone’s pressure. For him, citizen and national interest is the first priority. India will not compromise with anyone in the interest of the country.
