Dhurandhar: Ranveer Singh starrer film ‘Dhurandhar’ is embroiled in controversies even before its release. Actually, the parents of martyr Major Mohit Sharma have approached the Delhi High Court regarding the film. He alleges that this film seems to be based directly on his son’s life, his secret mission and martyrdom. The makers have made the film without the permission of the family and the army. It has been said in the petition that the trailer of the film, its visual presentation, the design of the characters, the military setup and the entire story is a reflection of the real missions and bravery of Major Mohit Sharma.

Major Mohit Sharma was martyred during the 2009 counter terror operation in Kupwara, Jammu and Kashmir. The family says that many things shown in the film are similar to their real military operations. Apart from this, Mohit Sharma’s family says that this is a direct violation of their privacy, prestige and ‘posthumous personality rights’ of the martyr, which are protected under Article 21 of the Constitution.

In this petition, serious concern has also been expressed on national security. The family says that the undercover operations, infiltration methods, counter-terror strategies, special forces methods and security framework shown in the film contain sensitive internal information. Making it public could be quite dangerous. The names of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Censor Board (CBFC), Army’s ADGPI, the film’s director and co-producer Aditya Dhar as well as Jio Studios are included in this petition.

The family of Major Mohit Sharma has demanded from the court to immediately stop the release of the film. He has also said that a private screening of the film should be organized for him before its public release, so that he can see if there is anything wrong or insensitive in the film. Besides, it has also been demanded in the petition that in future, before showing the story of any real military martyr, it should be made necessary to take permission from their legal heirs and the army.
