Landslide in Darjeeling : The circumstances have become unfavorable due to heavy rains in West Bengal and at least seven people died due to continuous rains on Saturday. Officials said the movement has been disrupted due to landslides near a hill slope on the Mirik-Sukhiapokhari road and contact with the surrounding areas has also been broken. Darjeeling Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Richard Lepcha told the news agency PTI that seven people have died due to landslides in Darjeeling sub-division due to heavy rains since last night. However, we do not yet have an exact figure, as rescue operations are going on continuously.

Rescue and relief work is being done

He said that local administration, police and disaster response teams are currently conducting rescue and relief operations. Officials said that officials of the State Disaster Management Department and Darjeeling District Administration have been deployed along with local volunteers to assist in rescue operations. He said that due to heavy rains since Friday night, there have been many reports of soil erosion and minor landslides on the hills, which has affected road connectivity in many parts of Darjeeling and Mirik.

Darjeeling police released helpline number

Apart from this, the police has also issued a helpline number to help tourists and local people. Tourists who are trapped somewhere due to landslides, they can contact the Darjeeling Police Control Room by dialing +91 91478 89078. It is being told that the roads connecting Siliguri and Sikkim have been closed at present after the water of Teesta River in Rabizhora area of ​​National Highway 10 has been closed. Similarly, the water from Kalimpong to Darjeeling has been flooded, due to which it has also stopped.

Darjeeling lost contact with plains

Due to the landslide on the Rohini road, the route from Siliguri to Darjeeling was closed, so that people could be saved from loss of life and property. This is the reason that the plains have lost contact between the plains like Darjeeling and Siliguri. The Meteorological Department had already issued a warning of heavy rain in Bengal and now there is continuous heavy rainfall since Saturday. People’s life has been badly affected due to rain. Apart from this, contact with many places has been lost due to landslides.
