Cuttack Violence: In connection with the violence in Cuttack, Odisha, the police raided and arrested eight people on Monday. In Cuttack, a 12 -hour shutdown was going on amid heavy security deployment with prohibition. Police Commissioner S Dev Dutta Singh said that three cases were registered by VHP workers on Sunday in connection with the attack on the police and eight people were arrested. He said that the situation is under control. Senior police officer Amarendra Panda and DCP Khilri Rishikesh Gyan Dev, DCP of Cuttack were among the 25 people injured in the attack. Officials said that Panda was admitted to SCB Medical College and ICU of the hospital.
Lathicharge on protesters, tear gas shells
Police said that after the identification of some mischievous people through CCTV footage, raids are going on in various parts of the city. What started as a debate, it soon increased and reached to throw stone pelting and glass bottles. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has called for a 12 -hour shutdown on Monday, accusing the police of failing to stop the attack on the processions. On Sunday, a motorcycle rally of VHP workers in support of the bandh was stopped by the police from reaching the disturbed area, causing violence again. VHP workers pelted stones at the police, after which the police used lathicharge, tear gas shells and rubber tablets to control the situation. During the violence, several shops in Gaurishankar Park area were set on fire. The bandh started at 6 in the morning had a mixed effect, but no incident happened.
Ban on entry into the city
Government offices and educational institutions remained open with low attendance. The market and petrol pumps remained open and public transport was available on the roads, but due to the sanctions imposed by the police, it was less than normal. ACP Narasimha Bhol said that 1,800 personnel of the state police have been deployed in the city with about 800 personnel of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) and Odisha Swift Action Force. He said that police patrolling is going on in sensitive areas and entry into the city has also been banned. He said that people outside are not allowed to enter Cuttack city, except those working here and patients going to SCB Medical College and Hospital. Passenger buses are being stopped at the entrances. All the entrances of the city have been closed to monitor the movement of anti -social elements.
Internet services also closed
ADG (law and order) Sanjay Kumar said that there is no news of any untoward incident and all agencies are on high alert. He said that senior officials are monitoring the situation and instructions have been issued to take quick action against anyone who takes laws in hand. Officials said that prohibitory orders have been implemented for 36 hours till 10 am on Tuesday morning in 13 of the 20 police stations of the city. He said that internet services have also been stopped for 24 hours from 7 pm on Sunday to prevent any kind of violence from provoking any kind of violence. The Odisha Police has urged people to confirm it before sharing information on social media and avoid posting false and inflammatory materials. He said that some people are creating an atmosphere of unrest in the society by creating fake news and spreading. Strict action will be taken. It has been said that strict action will be taken against those who are spreading false or misleading information.
