Jharkhand Tourism: Jharkhand government has focused on tourism. A new authority will be formed for the development of major sites. Jharkhand Assembly on Wednesday passed the Jharkhand Tourism Development and Registration (Amendment) Bill 2025 by voice vote to promote tourism in the state and provide better facilities to the tourists. This bill was introduced by Minister of State Sudivya Kumar. Under the bill, Jharkhand Tourism Area Authority (JTAA) will be established. This authority will develop and manage civic amenities at major tourist destinations which do not fall under the jurisdiction of any urban local body. The government believes that this will improve the infrastructure and give impetus to the tourism industry of the state. Minister of State Kumar said that the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the respective districts will be the chairman of the authority. He will ensure cleanliness, security, parking arrangements and prevention of encroachment at tourist places.

District Commissioner will be the chairman of the authority

He also said that the authority will have the power to collect fees and taxes from various sources including vehicles entering tourist destinations. The state tourism minister said that the revenue collected will be used for better management and development of the facilities. Two BJP MLAs Raj Sinha and Naveen Jaiswal proposed to send the bill to the selection committee. Sinha said that the local MLA has not been included in the organizational structure of the proposed authority. There should be a provision to include public representatives in the authority. Responding to the BJP MLAs, Kumar said that the District Commissioner of the concerned district will be the chairman of the authority. The Department will nominate important persons whose opinion is important for the effective functioning of the Authority. The government will leave no stone unturned to ensure smooth and efficient functioning of the authority. After this the Speaker rejected the proposal. According to a tourism official, the authority will initially be set up in Grade-A tourist destinations identified by the department such as Patratu, Netarhat, Rajrappa and Madhuban.

Those staying in Jharkhand Bhawan will be investigated

The Assembly also rejected bills related to the establishment of four private universities. Higher and Technical Education Minister Kumar proposed to withdraw the bills in the House after the notification of Jharkhand Private Universities Bill 2024 was issued. In the first part of the session, the MLAs raised various issues related to Jharkhand Bhawan in Delhi, ‘Abua Awas’ scheme and water supply. Opposition leader and Jharkhand BJP president Babulal Marandi criticized the government over the circular, in which only the family members of the MLA are allowed to stay in Jharkhand Bhawan and Urja Bhawan in Delhi. Marandi said that this rule can apply to officers. But we are representatives of the people and are accountable to our voters. Many times we have to make accommodation arrangements for other people also. Therefore, I urge the government to cancel this order. He also asked for the registers of the last five years so that he could know who had stayed there. In response, Minister Radhakrishna Kishore said that the government will investigate the matter.
