Constitution Day Facts: Today India is celebrating its 76th Constitution Day. PM Modi wrote in a post, “On Constitution Day, we pay tribute to those who made our Constitution.” Today, Constitution Day program has been organized in Parliament House. Why is Constitution Day being celebrated today?
The Constitution of India was implemented on 26 January 1950, but even before that we had adopted our Constitution. The Indian Constitution was fully prepared on 26 November 1949 and on the same day it was formally adopted by the Constituent Assembly, after which it was implemented on 26 January 1950. In 2015, on the 125th birth anniversary of Constitution maker Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, PM Modi declared 26 November as Constitution Day, since then Constitution Day is celebrated every year. Its objective is to increase awareness of constitutional values among the citizens.

After 2 years, 11 months and 18 days of hard work, the Indian Constitution was ready. This is the longest written constitution in the world. The Constitution of India is the longest written constitution in the world, which initially had 395 articles, 22 parts and 8 schedules. After several amendments, it now has 448 articles, 25 parts and 12 schedules. The Constitution of India was not typed, but was written by hand. It was written in both English and Hindi and contained a total of 90,000 words. On January 24, 1950, 284 members of the Constituent Assembly signed the Indian Constitution in the Constitution Hall of Parliament in New Delhi.

There were a total of 299 members in the Constituent Assembly, of which 229 were British members and 70 were members from Indian princely states. Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar was the chairman and chief creator of the committee. Apart from this, many big leaders including India’s first President Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Jawaharlal Nehru, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad were also involved in it. Women also took part in the Constituent Assembly, including Sarojini Naidu, Rajkumari Amrit Kaur, Hansaben Jivraj Mehta, Sucheta Kripalani and G. There were a total of 15 women members including Durgabai, that is why women have also been given equal rights in the Constitution.
