Fire in the shop: Four people, including a brother and sister, died in a massive fire in a shoe shop in South Delhi’s Tigri Extension on Saturday evening. While a woman got burnt.

Police said that information about the fire in the shop located on the ground floor of the four-storey building was received by the Police Control Room (PCR) at 6.24 pm, after which the police reached the spot. A senior police officer said that on reaching the spot, the police found that the entire building was engulfed in flames. The fire started from the shoe shop located on the ground floor and then spread upwards. The official said that three people were found dead at the spot, while two burnt women were taken out of the building and taken to the hospital. He said that one of the injured died during treatment. Police said that building owner Satendra alias Jimmy (38) and his sister Anita (40) died due to burning in the flames. The burnt woman has been identified as Mamta (40).

Fire spread in three-storey house

Police said that a team of crime branch and forensic department has been called to inspect the spot and evidence is being collected to find out the cause of the fire. After receiving information about the fire, two fire brigade vehicles reached the spot and after a lot of effort, the fire was controlled within an hour. South District Deputy Commissioner of Police Ankit Chauhan said that the police received information that a three-storey house near Sangam Vihar Mangal Bazar Road was on fire. As soon as the information was received, the police from the local police station along with two fire engines reached the spot. Investigation revealed that the fire started from the footwear shop located on the ground floor of the building and soon engulfed the entire ground floor. Simultaneously, clouds of smoke and flames spread on the upper floor.

Crime and forensic team reached the spot

Fire brigade and police team started relief and rescue operations. Police pulled five people out of the building amid smoke and fire. Of these, two burnt bodies were taken out from the ground floor and three from other floors. Everyone was taken to a nearby hospital. Where doctors declared three people dead. All three who died are men. Apart from this, two burnt women are undergoing treatment in the hospital, out of which one woman died. Fire brigade personnel brought the fire under control within an hour. Deputy Commissioner of Police Ankit Chauhan said that the local police has called the crime and forensic team at the incident site. The team is reaching the spot and collecting evidence. Police said that preliminary investigation revealed that a petrol can kept near the stairs on the ground floor caught fire, due to which the fire spread throughout the building.
