UP News: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday announced ‘One District-One Cuisine’ initiative with the aim of giving global recognition to the traditional food of the state. This initiative comes after Lucknow was recently included in the ‘Gastronomy’ category of UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network. The Chief Minister said that this global honor is not only for Lucknow, but is an honor for the diverse and rich cuisine tradition of entire Uttar Pradesh. He said that now is the time to present the special dishes and tastes of every district of the state on the world stage. Under the ‘One District-One Cuisine’ scheme, the government will promote the specific dishes of each district, which will promote the local cuisine industry and strengthen the cultural identity of the state on the global stage.
Every district is famous for its unique taste
He said that take a tour of the world of flavors around you or take pictures or videos of your home-made dishes and share them on social media with #One District-One Cuisine. The Chief Minister said that every district of the state keeps its culture, pride and history alive with its unique flavour. Chaat of Lucknow, Malaiyo of Banaras, Gajak of Meerut, Sohan Halwa of Banda, Balushahi of Baghpat, Petha of Agra, Parha of Mathura, Moradabadi Dal, Kurchan of Khurja, this list is quite long. CM Adityanath said that every dish has its own taste and a glorious history. Welcoming the concept of ‘one district-one cuisine’, Lucknow-based writer and storyteller Himanshu Bajpayee said that there are many dishes which are made in a particular district. They are the identity of that district and outsiders do not know much about them. He said that once people adopt this idea, the popularity of this food item will increase.
Lucknow got UNESCO honor
The city of Lucknow was last month officially included in UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network under the ‘Gastronomy’ category, indicating global acceptance of its culinary heritage, it said. UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay on 31 October named 58 cities as new members of the CCN, which now includes 408 cities from more than 100 countries. According to the UN agency, cities in this network are recognized for their commitment to fostering creativity as a driver of sustainable urban development. In India, the United Nations had said in a post on Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh is a food paradise rich in centuries-old traditions.
