Major attack on Naxalism: The Home Ministry claimed on Wednesday that the number of districts most affected by Naxalism has been reduced to three. Now in Chhattisgarh, only Bijapur, Sukma and Narayanpur are the districts most affected by Left Wing Extremism (LWE). This statement of the Home Ministry has come at a time when 88 members of CPI (Maoist) have surrendered in Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra. This is another success of the anti-Naxal campaign. The ministry said that with the Modi government’s strategy to build a Naxal-free India, the number of districts most affected by Naxalism has reduced from six to three, while LWE affected districts have also reduced from 18 to only 11.

Naxal problem will end by 31st March

These 11 districts affected by Left Wing Extremism are Bijapur, Dantewada, Gariaband, Kanker, Mohalla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki, Narayanpur and Sukma (all Chhattisgarh), West Singhbhum (Jharkhand), Balaghat (Madhya Pradesh), Gadchiroli (Maharashtra) and Kandhamal (Odisha). Modi government is committed to completely end the Naxal problem by 31 March 2026. The Home Ministry said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, operational successes this year have surpassed all previous records, with 312 left-wing extremist cadres being eliminated. Which includes CPI (Maoist) General Secretary and 8 other Politburo/Central Committee members. 836 leftist extremist cadres have been arrested and 1,639 have surrendered. All of them have joined the mainstream. Among the Naxalites who surrendered is a Politburo member and a Central Committee member.

Government got unprecedented success

The Home Ministry has claimed that unprecedented success has been achieved in dealing with the Naxal threat due to the strict implementation of the Modi government’s national action plan and policy. Accurate intelligence information has also contributed to the action plan. Along with these steps, rapid development in the area and accessibility of welfare schemes to the people have also been the main reasons for the decline in Naxalism. Naxalism, described by the then Prime Minister in 2010 as India’s biggest internal security challenge, is now clearly in retreat. The Home Ministry claimed that the Naxalites had planned a red corridor from Pashupati in Nepal to Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh. But the Modi government launched a campaign and destroyed the plans of the Naxalites. The statement said that in 2013, Naxal-related violence was reported in 126 districts of various states, but by March 2025 this number had reduced to only 18 districts. Out of which only six have been identified as the most affected districts.
