NTA’s Performance: The parliamentary panel has raised questions about NTA’s performance and said that in the last one year, 14 exams have been conducted out of which problems have been seen in 5. Apart from this, it is also advised to do the exam with pen and paper.
NTA’s Performance : The Standing Committee on Education of Parliament led by Congress leader Digvijay Singh has raised questions on the performance of the National Testing Agency (NTA). Especially serious questions have been raised regarding the paper leak. The parliamentary panel has recommended to the government that the entrance exams should be conducted in pen and paper mode, because most of the CBSE board and UPSC exams are being conducted on this system. Moreover, these exam leaks are also very less and this is the reason why pen and paper exams are more secure. Apart from this, the panel also said that the performance of NTA last year has not been very reliable. The panel headed by Congress MP Digvijay Singh said that out of the 14 exams conducted by the NTA in 2024 alone, serious problems were seen in five.
3 exams postponed due to irregularities
At the same time, three exams UGC-NET, CSIR-NET and NEET-PG had to be postponed. Apart from this, news of paper leak in NEET-UG came to light and the results of one exam CUET (UG/PG) were postponed. The parliamentary panel said that due to mistakes in the JEE Main 2025 final answer key held in January 2025, at least 12 questions had to be removed. The Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports observed that such incidents do not inspire confidence of candidates in the system. The committee said that it is therefore recommended that NTA should quickly fix its system so that such problems can be completely avoided.
Exams should not be held in private centers
The report further said that there are many advantages and disadvantages in securing the examination process. But in pen and paper exams, there are more chances of paper leakage, whereas Computer-Based Test (CBT) can be hacked in a way that is difficult to detect. Of the two, the committee supported greater focus on pen and paper examinations, as there are several models of such examinations that have been leak proof for many years, including CBSE examinations and UPSC examinations. Apart from this, the committee has recommended that NTA should study these models closely and help in implementing them soon. Also, exams conducted through Computer-Based Test (CBT) should be conducted only in government or government-controlled centers and never in private centers.
