Train accident: On Tuesday, 5 passengers died in a horrific train accident near Bilaspur station in Chhattisgarh, while 14 were seriously injured. The collision was so severe that the passenger train ran behind the goods train. The coaches of both trains were badly damaged. As soon as information about the accident was received, top railway officials reached the spot. The officials immediately started relief and rescue operations. There was a collision from behind between a passenger train and a goods train, in which 5 people died and 14 were injured. Railway officials said that the incident took place around 4 pm on Tuesday when the MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) passenger train was going from Gevra (Korba) to Bilaspur.
Work to clean the track begins
Officials said that when the train was between Gatora and Bilaspur railway stations, the passenger train collided with a goods train from behind. Bilaspur Collector Sanjay Aggarwal said that till now the death of 5 people has been confirmed in this accident. Two others are still trapped and efforts are on to rescue them. The injured passengers have been admitted to Apollo Hospital and Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) Hospital in Bilaspur. He told that the condition of one of them is said to be critical. Railway officials have started the work of cleaning the track. Necessary steps are being taken for the treatment of the injured. The coach of the passenger train was mounted on a coach of the goods train. On the accident, CM Sai said that railway machinery and district administration teams have immediately reached the spot and are engaged in relief and rescue operations. He said that all necessary medical facilities and resources are being made available for the treatment of the injured. The state government is keeping a close watch on the situation with full promptness and sensitivity. The Chief Minister expressed deep condolences to the families of the passengers who lost their lives in this accident and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
The families of the deceased will get Rs 10 lakh each
Meanwhile, an official statement said that the railway authorities have announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs 5 lakh each to the seriously injured, while the minor injured will be given an assistance amount of Rs 1 lakh each. A detailed investigation into this incident will be conducted at the level of Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) to find out the reasons and recommend necessary measures. Relief and rescue work has been started on war footing by the Railway Administration. Senior officials have reached the spot to monitor the situation. The injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals for treatment. Railway officials are providing all possible assistance and coordination to the affected passengers. Helpline numbers have been issued for the convenience of passengers and their families.
