SAESI Inaugration: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to give a big gift to the country today. On Wednesday, PM will inaugurate the Safran Aircraft Engine Services India (SAESI) facility in Hyderabad through video-conferencing. SAESI is Safran’s dedicated maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility for LEAP (Leading Edge Aviation Propulsion) engines that power the Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
Facility built for Rs 1,300 crore
An official statement said that the construction of this facility is a major milestone, as it is not only one of the largest aircraft engine MRO facilities in the world, but it is also the first time that a global engine OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) has started MRO operations in India. Spread over 45,000 square meters within the GMR Aerospace and Industrial Park-SEZ, this state-of-the-art facility has been developed with an initial investment of approximately Rs 1,300 crore.

India will become global aviation hub
The SAESI facility will employ more than 1,000 high-skilled Indian technicians and engineers when it reaches full operational capacity by 2035. It is designed to service 300 LEAP engines every year. This facility will have advanced process equipment to provide world-class engine maintenance and repair services. The statement said that the MRO facility will be a major step towards the goal of self-reliance in the aviation sector. Developing indigenous capabilities in MRO will reduce foreign-exchange outflow, create high-value jobs, strengthen supply-chain resilience and position India as a global aviation hub.
Help received from policy
The statement said that the government is actively working to create a strong MRO ecosystem to support the rapid growth of this sector. Key policies of the government have made it easier for MRO providers to operate by rationalizing the tax structure and reducing the royalty burden. This includes the Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms of 2024, MRO Guidelines-2021 and National Civil Aviation Policy-2016.
