Haridwar Stone Pelting: The atmosphere became tense in Jwalapur area of ​​Haridwar in Uttarakhand on Sunday when stones were pelted at a procession being taken out by Bajrang Dal. After the stone pelting, anger spread among the workers, although the police officers tried to control the situation. Officials said that the police and administration immediately reached the spot and assured the angry Bajrang Dal workers that action would be taken against anti-social elements.

Workers arrived with bulldozers

Bajrang Dal had taken out ‘Shaurya Yatra’ in the evening. He told that the procession started from three different places in Haridwar and as soon as it reached Ram Chowk in Jwalapur, an incident of stone pelting took place. On receiving information about the incident, police and administration teams arrived with heavy force and started trying to control the situation. The activists also alleged that unidentified people pelted stones and threw petrol bomb-like substance at them. Many workers have been seriously injured. Meanwhile, some workers reached the spot with bulldozers. The rest of the workers also sat on strike at Ram Chowk.

Police took control of the situation

As soon as information was received about the jam at the square and the situation worsening, the police reached the spot and assured the workers that strict action would be taken against those who threw stones. Police have registered an FIR and are investigating further. Bajrang Dal state president Anuj Walia alleged that when the procession reached Ram Chowk, some people pelted stones. He said, “Law and order in Haridwar has completely deteriorated, and the attacks on religious processions show the failure of the administration.”

Identification of accused released

Haridwar City Superintendent of Police Abhay Pratap Singh said that information has been received about alleged stone pelting by anti-social elements at the procession. He said that a case is being registered against unknown people and once the accused are identified on the basis of video footage, strict legal action will be taken against them. Police have deployed additional police force in the area and surveillance is being done at every nook and corner.
