Election Commission: The BJP on Saturday alleged that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists as she fears the possible defeat of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the assembly elections next year. BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said that Banerjee is scared of the SIR as it will expose the infiltrators whom TMC has protected as its vote bank. BJP says that due to appeasement politics the Chief Minister is questioning this process, whereas it is a necessary step to purify the voter list. Bhatia told reporters at the BJP headquarters here that when the news came on various TV channels that the infiltrators were returning to their country, Mamata Banerjee looked sad, worried and extremely distressed.

Mamta’s rally on 25th November

He said that Mamata Banerjee is now thinking that she nurtured these infiltrators, got them fake certificates so that when the time comes, they would vote for her, but now when the elections are coming, they are going back to their country. Meanwhile, Banerjee is going to hold a rally in Bongaon in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal on 25 November. After this she will lead a 3 kilometer long march from Chandpara to Thakurnagar – the spiritual headquarters of the Matua community. This is a part of their campaign against changes in the voter list. This is the latest part of their campaign against SIR, which Gaurav Bhatia has condemned as forceful and anarchical.

TMC’s countdown begins

That said, why is Mamata Banerjee so worried and uneasy about SIR, which will ensure that only Indian citizens can vote? What is their compulsion? Bhatia quipped. The BJP spokesperson alleged that Banerjee’s entire political trend is based on communal polarization and votes for infiltrators. Bhatia alleged that at the behest of Mamata Banerjee, his party leader Humayun Kabir talked about the construction of Babri Masjid on 6 December. Now it is clear how Mamata Banerjee is doing appeasement politics by adopting anti-Hindu stance. He said that the countdown for TMC has started. He said that the people of West Bengal will teach Banerjee a tough lesson in the state elections next year.
