India-Italy Relations: Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani has described India as his most trusted friend. Antonio Tajani said that Italy can make an important contribution to the development of India. Said that both the countries are considering further expanding bilateral economic relations. Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister Tajani is also the Foreign Minister. Tajani is on a three-day visit to India with the aim of further strengthening the economic partnership between the two countries in view of America’s comprehensive tariff policies. In an exclusive article for PTI, the Deputy Prime Minister said the Italian Foreign Ministry has launched a special financing scheme of 50 million euros with India to help Italian companies enter the local market and set up joint ventures.
Purpose of the visit: To promote bilateral trade
He said that the purpose of this tour is to further promote Italy in India and India in Italy. India is a huge market. It is a rapidly growing economic power. From infrastructure to new technologies, from IT services to space, India has made remarkable achievements in various fields. Tajani described India as Italy’s long-time trusted friend and priority. He said India is a strategic partner on key international issues and an important interlocutor in the areas of economy, trade, investment and innovation. Said that Italy is a major partner of India in Europe and bilateral relations between the two countries have grown significantly in the last few years. In November last year, both sides unveiled an ambitious five-year strategic action plan across key areas such as defence, trade, clean energy and connectivity.
Support for India-EU Free Trade Agreement
Said that at present the annual bilateral trade between the two countries is about 14 billion euros and both sides are striving to increase it under a strong trade framework. He said that India is one of the priority countries of our strategy. He further said that the additional Italian investment of 500 million euros in India is a concrete sign of the commitment of our companies. The Deputy Prime Minister said that Italy not only wants to increase exports, but also wants to increase industrial cooperation, joint ventures, co-development and co-production projects. He said that I believe that more trade also means more investment on both sides. The Deputy Prime Minister also said that Italy fully supports the much-awaited India-EU Free Trade Agreement. He said that we are close to finalizing the long-awaited EU-India Free Trade Agreement. Italy has always supported an ambitious, balanced and mutually beneficial agreement.
