Wolf Terror: Panic has spread among the people due to wolf terror in Kaiserganj tehsil of Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh. People are staying awake all night to protect their families. Five people including four children have been seriously injured due to the wolf attack. Two wolves attacked five people including four children within 12 hours. Forest officials said that during the rescue operation, a wolf was injured by the departmental shooter. Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Ram Singh Yadav said that the first attack took place around 3 am on Saturday in Balirajpurwa village, where a woman named Durgavati (40) was attacked by a wolf outside her house. Hearing his screams, the villagers ran to help him, due to which the wolf ran away. Later, four more attacks took place around Majhara Taukli village at 12.15 pm, 12.40 pm, 1.35 pm and 3.30 pm.

Attack while playing outside

The victims have been identified as Meena (8), Monica (5), Shivanki (6) and Chandrasen (5). All were attacked while playing or walking outside their homes. Yadav told PTI that when the report was received, the forest teams were patrolling the wolf-infested areas. The injured were immediately taken to the hospital for treatment and trained shooters along with anesthesia experts started a search operation. The DFO further said that at around 5.15 pm, a team saw a wolf preparing to attack a youth near Koniya village. To save the young man, a shooter opened fire, injuring the wolf’s hind leg. The injured wolf was later seen limping towards the riverbank grasslands surrounded by wild sugarcane and reeds. We are keeping an eye on the injured wolf with drones and camera traps. Footprints have been found and it is likely that the animal is either dead or too weak to move. Our priority is to save him alive.

Villagers are keeping guard

Forest officials believe that only one of the two aggressive wolves is active in the area. There were no fresh attacks between Saturday evening and Sunday morning. The department has divided the wolf-affected areas into six zones, in which there are about 30 teams. Apart from this, 21 task forces are included. Meanwhile, villagers have formed night patrolling teams armed with torches and sticks. Since September 9, six people, including four children and an elderly couple, have lost their lives in wolf attacks in Bahraich. While about 30 others were injured. Earlier, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had ordered a high-level rescue and control operation, with lethal action allowed only if capture efforts failed. Last year, a similar pack of wolves had created terror in some parts of Mahsi tehsil during monsoon, killing nine people.
