President Murmu: President Draupadi Murmu said on Friday that active participation of women is necessary for the country to achieve the vision of a developed India by 2047.
President Murmu: President Draupadi Murmu said on Friday that active participation of women is necessary for the country to achieve the vision of a developed India by 2047. Speaking at the centenary celebrations of St. Teresa’s College, Kochi, Murmu said that a society led by women leaders is more humane as well as more efficient. The President said that reaching 70 per cent female workforce participation is one of the key pillars of achieving the vision of a developed India by 2047. Women from different socio-economic sectors are driving India’s progress. Murmu said that the three women Ammu Swaminathan, Annie Mascarene and Dakshayani Velayudhan had influenced the discussions on fundamental rights, social justice and gender equality as well as many other important aspects.
Fatima Biwi created history
He said that it is heartening to see that women in India are playing major responsibilities in the nation building efforts. The President said that in these the women of Kerala have set remarkable examples of excellence. He said that Justice Anna Chandy was the first woman to become a High Court judge in India. Justice M. Fatima Beevi created history in 1989 by becoming the first woman judge of the Supreme Court of India. Murmu said that the students of St. Teresa’s College represent a young, prosperous and vibrant India. He said that the alumni of this college are playing a positive role in the development of the country through their contribution. He also praised the college’s community initiatives and said they reflect the spirit of helping others. He said that it is commendable that the college believes in serving the underprivileged and maintaining a simple lifestyle.
Appreciation of students working selflessly
Said that it is really heart touching to know about the college students working selflessly in flood relief camps. He expressed happiness that the college has launched a project called SLATE, which aims to promote sustainability and leadership through education. By starting this project the college has demonstrated its commitment towards the objectives of the National Education Policy 2020. Connecting youth to India’s goals under the Sustainable Development Goals and preparing them for the jobs of the future are indeed laudable objectives of this project. He urged the students to make life choices with clarity and courage and pursue a path that allows them to express their passion and abilities. She said that a society led by women leaders is not only more humane but also more efficient.
