Ex CJI Raman: Former Chief Justice of India NV Ramana said that many cases were registered against my family members to force me. Addressing the fifth convocation of VIT-AP University, former Justice Ramana, without naming the YSRCP government, said that even members of the judiciary who uphold constitutional principles have to face pressure and harassment. He said that the family members of judges who had no role became guarantors of political organizations. He said in clear words that you people know how my family members were targeted and criminal cases were registered against them. This was done just to force me.

protested against three capitals

Former CJI Ramana said that in bad times, all the people who sympathized with the farmers had to face pressure. He was referring to the farmers’ agitation against the Justice Ramana YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government, which had protested against revoking Amaravati as the sole capital of Andhra Pradesh and creating three capitals, namely Visakhapatnam as the administrative capital, Amaravati as the assembly capital and Kurnool as the judicial capital. He said that at a time when some leaders were keeping silence, it was the lawyers and the courts who were adamant in their constitutional duties. He further said that even if the government changes its stand, the courts and laws become the basis of stability of the governance.

Farmers’ struggles inspire us: Former CJI

He said that the rule of law is possible only when people rely on public trust and refuse to sacrifice their integrity for convenience. Apart from this, the former judge while remembering the old days of Amravati said that I know very well the farmers of this place who have always faced the government machinery courageously. Besides, I also get a lot of inspiration from the struggles of the farmers. I also express my gratitude to him for maintaining his faith in the judicial system and the democratic process. Let us tell you that after N Chandrababu Naidu came to power in Andhra Pradesh, the project in Amaravati has been revived once again and now the work is also progressing rapidly.
