CM Yogi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday paid tribute to freedom fighter Uda Devi on her martyrdom day. Said that their sacrifice reminds us that when injustice increases, the resistance against it must be even greater. Speaking at an event organized on her martyrdom day, Adityanath described Uda Devi as an enduring symbol of courage and resistance. It is said that on this day in 1857, Uda Devi had killed 36 British soldiers during the first war of independence. Praising Uda Devi’s courage, Adityanath said her sacrifice reminds us that if injustice increases, the resistance against it must be even greater. His resistance at that time inspired the youth and revolutionaries of the country to fight against injustice with full commitment.

Many old forts are being renovated

Recalling his visit to the Maharaja Bijli Pasi Fort, Adityanath said the government has approved its beautification and installation of a light-and-sound show to ensure that future generations learn about the legacy of the warriors of the region including Maharaja Lakhan Pasi, Shaitan Pasi, Cheeta Pasi, Bijli Pasi, Raja Gangabakhsh Rawat and Veera Pasi. He said that many old forts are being renovated and developed as inspiration centers for the youth. Yogi said his government has included lessons on freedom fighters, including those from the Pasi community, in the school curriculum. He mentioned that additional books have been provided at different levels for the students to know about these personalities.

Respect for women is government’s priority

The Chief Minister also announced the raising of three women battalions of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), which will be named after prominent women freedom fighters of 1857, including Uda Devi. Three new women PAC battalions have been set up: one in Lucknow in the name of Uda Devi, one in Gorakhpur in the name of Jhalkari Bai Kori, and one in Badaun in the name of Avanti Bai Lodhi. These brave women played a decisive role in India’s freedom struggle and demonstrated the immense courage and bravery of women power. Yogi said that Veerangana Uda Devi reminds us how capable and powerful women are. He said that honoring women warriors and upliftment of Scheduled Caste communities remains the priority of the state government.
