26/11 Mumbai Attack: Today 17 years have passed since the Mumbai attacks. In the year 2008, on 26th November, clouds of terror had spread over the Maya city of Mumbai. In this attack, 166 people including security personnel lost their lives and more than 300 people were injured. The news of the attack spread panic throughout the country. Terrorists simultaneously attacked many important places in Mumbai, including Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST), Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, Oberoi Trident Hotel and Nariman House (Chabad House).

10 terrorists of Lashkar-e-Taiba entered India through sea route. All of them had come to Mumbai from Pakistan. Security personnel had killed 9 terrorists, only Ajmal Kasab was caught alive, who was later given death sentence. The security forces conducted a 60-hour operation against these terrorists. Recently, Tahawwur Rana has been brought to India and is facing trial. Tahawwur Rana is one of the main conspirators of the Mumbai attacks.

‘I still remember that horrifying scene‘
On the 17th anniversary of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, Mohammad Taufiq alias Chhotu Chaiwala said, “Even today I have not been able to forget the night of 26th. I cannot sleep at night, I sleep only around 5-6 in the morning. The scenes of that day were very scary.”
Assistant Police Inspector Hemant Bavdhankar, who was part of the police party that captured Ajmal Kasab during the 26/11 terror attacks, said, “It has been 17 years since the terror attack, but the memories of that day are still fresh when 10 terrorists of Pakistan sponsored Lashkar-e-Taiba attacked Mumbai. It seems as if this incident had happened only a few days ago. Our friend Tukaram Ombale, Karkare Saheb, Salaskar Saheb Shinde Sir… our strong officers of the police force were martyred and many innocent people were killed.”

Devika Rotawan, who identified Ajmal Kasab, said, “The 17-year-old wound still feels fresh.” Special Public Prosecutor in the 26/11 terror case said, “There is a question in the mind of every Indian – have the families who lost their loved ones in the 26/11 terrorist attack got complete justice? I would say that we have given justice to some extent, Kasab has got the death sentence through the legal process. But the conspirators of this attack are still hiding in Pakistan.”
