An expert court in Dhaka on Monday sentenced him to five years in prison for irregularities in the plot allotment of the Capital Development Authority (RAJUK) in Purbachal New Town Project. Apart from this, Judge Mohammad Rabiul Alam has also sentenced Hasina’s sister Sheikh Rehana to 7 years and her niece British MP Tulip Siddiq to two years in the same case. According to Bangladesh’s ‘The Daily Star’ newspaper, this is the fourth decision related to Hasina in the cases taken by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Haseena’s total punishment was 26 years

Apart from the 5-year sentence given to Sheikh Hasina in corruption case, now her sentence has increased to 26 years due to the past decisions against her. It was alleged in the court that Hasina family had wrongly got the plots in their names in Purbachal area of ​​Dhaka by ignoring the government rules, whereas according to the existing rules, they were not eligible for it. Meanwhile, Sheikh Hasina was sentenced to 21 years of rigorous imprisonment on 27 November.

Two sons also got 5-5 years imprisonment

Judge Mohammad Rabiul Alam clearly said that Sheikh Hasina and her family deliberately ignored the rules and grabbed government land. Apart from this, the court also sentenced Hasina’s two sons Sajeeb Wazed Joy and daughter Saima Wazed to 5 years each. Besides, a fine of one lakh taka has also been imposed. At the same time, no lawyer appeared on behalf of Hasina in the court, because all the accused are absconding from the country. Let us tell you that Sheikh Hasina has already been sentenced to death in one case.

found guilty against humanity

Apart from corruption, the International Criminal Tribunal (ICT) of Bangladesh had considered Sheikh Hasina a criminal against humanity for suppressing the student movement in July-August last year. After this, the court in its decision sentenced him to death. It is known that in August 2024, when huge protests started across the country, Hasina fled to India and has taken refuge since then. Also, the present government has asked India to extradite Sheikh Hasina. At the same time, India’s Foreign Ministry said that it is conducting a legal investigation in this matter and is fully committed to democracy in Bangladesh. The youth and common people in Bangladesh are very happy that the people involved in corruption in the country are being punished and on the other hand, the remaining Awami League leaders are calling it just political revenge.
