In the encounter that took place on Wednesday, 12 Naxalites were killed and two soldiers of the District Reserve Guard (DRG), a special unit of the state police, were also martyred. Officials said that another DRG soldier was injured in the encounter. He told that the anti-Naxal campaign is still going on in the district. Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj Pattilingam said that the encounter started in the forest on the border of Bijapur-Dantewada districts when a joint team of security personnel was out on an anti-Naxal operation.

Arms and ammunition recovered

He said that DRG of Dantewada and Bijapur, Special Task Force, both units of the state police and personnel of Cobra (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action, an elite unit of CRPF) are involved in this operation. Senior IPS officer said that till now the bodies of 12 Naxalites have been recovered from the encounter site but their identification has not been done yet. He said that apart from this, Single Loading Rifle (SLR), .303 rifle and other arms and ammunition have been recovered from the spot. The IGP said that the injured jawan was immediately provided first aid and he is said to be out of danger.

Naxalites should join the mainstream: Pattilingam

He said that proper arrangements have been made for the further treatment of the soldier. Bijapur Superintendent of Police Jitendra Yadav said that reinforcement teams have been sent to the encounter site falling in West Bastar division and the search operation is still going on in the area. With the latest action by security forces, 270 Naxalites have been killed in encounters in Chhattisgarh so far this year. Of them, 241 were killed in Bastar division, which includes seven districts including Bijapur and Dantewada, while 27 others were killed in Gariaband district, which falls in Raipur division. Two Naxalites were killed in Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki district of Durg division. The Center has set a deadline of March 31, 2026 to completely eliminate left-wing extremism. Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj Pattilingam has appealed to the Naxalites to leave the path of violence and join the mainstream.
