SIR Deadline Extended: The Election Commission of India has extended the deadline for Special Intensive Review (SIR) in six states. The Election Commission has extended the deadline for the ongoing SIR process in Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Andaman Nicobar. This has brought great relief to the BLOs working on the ground, because there was a lot of work pressure on them, in view of which the Election Commission has taken this decision.
Know when the forms will be filled
According to the Election Commission, now forms will be filled in Tamil Nadu and Gujarat by 14th December and the draft of voter list will be released on 19th December. Whereas in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Andaman Nicobar, forms will be filled by 18th December and the draft of voter list will be released on 23rd December. Uttar Pradesh has got maximum time. In UP, forms will be filled till 26th December and the draft voter list will be released on 31st December. Even before this, the Election Commission had once extended the deadline for SIR. It was said by the Election Commission that in the states where the SIR process is going on, the final voter list will be released on February 14.

BLO got big relief
Booth level officers have got the maximum relief due to extension of SIR deadline. The BLOs were under a lot of stress due to working within the short deadline. Due to tension in many states, BLOs committed suicide, after which questions started being raised on the Election Commission. Apart from this, people were also taking time to find the documents to be given along with the SIR form. Whereas in UP the process of SIR was going on very slowly. Considering all the reasons, the Election Commission decided to extend the deadline for filling the forms and releasing the draft list.
SIR running in 12 states
The purpose of SIR is to update the voter list, which includes removing duplicate names, removing names of dead or migrated voters, and adding names of newly eligible voters (above 18 years of age). Under this process, booth-level officers (BLOs) are doing door-to-door verification. It is being done in 12 states of the country and in this the details of 50 crore voters will be checked. At present it is running in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Goa, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep and Puducherry.
