Israel Attack: Israel attacked Gaza and killed a top Hamas commander. Israel claimed on Saturday that it had killed a top Hamas commander in Gaza. The name of the top commander is said to be Raed Saad. The attack came at a time when two Israeli army soldiers were injured in an explosion in the south of the area. In a statement, Hamas said that a civilian vehicle was attacked outside Gaza City, in violation of the ceasefire that came into effect on October 10. Top commander Raed is considered one of the key planners of the attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023. Israeli media has given this news quoting sources. Both Israel and Hamas have been accusing each other of ceasefire violations. According to Palestinian health officials, at least 386 Palestinians have died in Israeli air strikes and firing since the ceasefire came into force. However, Israel described the recent attack as a response to terrorist attacks on its soldiers.

Raed was the head of Hamas’ weapons manufacturing unit

According to Gaza health officials, 4 people were killed and 25 people were injured in the attack. However, Raed’s death was not immediately confirmed by Hamas or medical personnel. The Israeli military said only that it had targeted a senior Hamas commander in Gaza City, but did not name him. If Raed’s death is confirmed, it would be the biggest target of a senior Hamas leader since the ceasefire that came into effect in October. An Israeli defense official described Raed as the head of Hamas’ arms manufacturing unit, while Hamas sources described him as second-in-command of the group’s armed wing, behind Izzedine al-Haddad. This attack has taken place at a time when despite the ceasefire in October, violence in Gaza has not completely ended. According to Gaza health officials, 386 Palestinians have been killed in attacks by Israeli forces since the ceasefire.

Lakhs of people forced to live in tents

On the other hand, heavy rains and severe cold in Gaza Strip during the last 72 hours have made the situation worse. So far 14 people have died due to bad weather, including three children. The Gaza-based Health Ministry said that due to the ongoing war, a large part of Gaza has already been turned into ruins. Lakhs of people have been forced to live in tents and temporary camps for almost two years. In such a situation, heavy rains have increased their problems manifold. According to relief organization Oxfam, thousands of tents have been submerged in water due to widespread waterlogging. People have to somehow save their lives by passing through sewage, mud and debris. Local residents described the situation as extremely painful. A woman named Um Mustafa said that all her mattresses, blankets, clothes and food items got spoiled in the rain. He told that the flour and rice left with him also became useless after getting soaked in water, due to which there was chaos during the rain at night.
