Earthquake in Afghanistan: An earthquake of 6.3 magnitude in Afghanistan has once again shaken the country. These tremors occurred in Balkh and Samangan provinces and 10 people have died here.

Earthquake in Afghanistan : An earthquake of 6.3 magnitude has occurred in northern Afghanistan. It was so powerful that about 10 people died and many were seriously injured. The US Geological Survey said that the epicenter of the earthquake was 22 kilometers west-southwest of Khulm city and it occurred at a depth of 28 kilometers at around 12:59 pm local time. Meanwhile, Afghan Health Ministry spokesperson Sharafat Zaman said that 10 people died and 260 were injured due to the earthquake. On the other hand, Disaster Management Agency spokesperson Yousuf Hammad said that most of the injured have suffered minor injuries and have been discharged from the hospital after first aid.

Rescue teams sent to affected areas

Afghanistan’s Defense Ministry has sent rescue and emergency assistance teams to help earthquake-hit areas in Balkh and Samangan provinces. The Ministry has given instructions to rescue the injured people from the debris and to provide necessary assistance to the affected families and to take them to safe places. According to Afghan officials, the earthquake was first felt in Mazar-e-Sharif, the capital of northern Balkh province. In the viral video on social media, it can be seen that the historic Blue Mosque has been extensively damaged. Many bricks had fallen from the walls, but the mosque is safe. This centuries-old site is one of the most revered religious sites in Afghanistan and serves as a major gathering place during Islamic and cultural festivals.

United Nations is providing aid

The earthquake was felt in Kabul and many other provinces of Afghanistan. The Defense Ministry said in a statement that a rock slide briefly blocked a main mountain highway linking Kabul with Mazar-e-Sharif, but the road was later reopened. Also, some people stranded on the highway have been admitted to the hospital. At the same time, the United Nations said that its teams are assessing the needs at the ground level and providing immediate assistance. Let us tell you that earlier, 4,000 people were killed in an earthquake of 6.3 magnitude that occurred on October 7, 2023.
