On the other hand, due to the flood, the island became landlocked and some parts were cut off, now the people engaged in rescue operations are facing a lot of problems in contacting the people present there.

People are looting to survive

According to the National Disaster Management Agency, 402 more people have gone missing in three provinces of Indonesia, North Sumatra, West Sumatra and Aceh and due to bad weather, rescue operations are facing a lot of problems. Sibolga and Central Tapanuli district of North Sumatra are taking the longest time to provide help. Some people even walked through waist-deep flood water to reach the ruined convenience stores. The most worrying thing during this time is that amidst the severe shortage of food and drinking water, the local people are resorting to looting to survive. They are running away with rice, medicines, gas cylinders and other essential items.

11 helicopters sent for humanitarian aid

At the same time, the police have said that they have received reports of vandalism in shops on Saturday evening and local police have been deployed to restore order. He further said that people were not sure whether food items would reach them or not and they chose the path of looting. At the same time, 11 helicopters have been sent to deliver aid material and this help is being sent especially to those areas where roads have been cut off from land. Apart from this, the Cabinet Secretariat released footage of the military dropping supplies in the affected areas. Survivors in North Tapnauli village waved at the helicopters carrying help. Meanwhile, four navy ships stopped at a port to help.
