While talking to the media, Piyush Goyal said that no agreement can be reached unless we fully protect the interests of India’s farmers, fishermen and people working in MSME sectors. He said that the progress of negotiations between the two countries on the proposed agreement is progressing very fast. This comment of the Commerce and Industry Minister is being considered very important because America is constantly trying to open the way for India’s agricultural products. The Indian official team led by Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agarwal was in Washington this week to hold trade talks with their US counterparts. The three-day talks ended on 17 October. The team is now returning from America.

Many issues have been resolved

Regarding bilateral talks, an official said that during this visit the talks between the two sides were positive and many issues had been resolved in the earlier rounds of talks also. In February this year, the leaders of India and the US had directed officials to discuss a proposed bilateral trade agreement. He has set a deadline to complete the first phase of the agreement by the autumn of 2025. So far, five rounds of talks have been completed between the two countries. Last month, Goyal led an official delegation to New York for trade talks. Let us tell you that the Trump administration announced to impose 50 percent tariff on India, after which the relations between the two countries are under serious tension. At the same time, India has called the tariff unfair and imprudent.
