PM Modi at G20 Summit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday left for Johannesburg, South Africa on a three-day visit to attend the G20 Summit. This summit is being hosted by South Africa from 21 to 23 November. Prime Minister Modi said that this summit is important in many ways. He reminded that during India’s G20 Presidency (2023), the African Union was given permanent membership of the G20 and now holding this summit in Africa further strengthens that historic step.
Focus will be on Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam
The PM said that he will present India’s perspective at the forum, which is in line with its vision of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ and ‘One Earth, One Family and One Future’. This is the first time that the G20 summit is being held on the African continent. Modi posted on Instagram, “I am going to attend the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa. This is a special summit because it is being held in Africa and many global issues will be discussed there. Will meet many world leaders during the summit.”

He said that the theme of this year’s G20 is ‘Solidarity, Equality and Stability’, through which South Africa has taken forward the results of the previous summits held in New Delhi and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Modi said, “I am looking forward to my talks with the leaders of partner countries and my participation in the 6th IBSA Summit to be held during the summit.” He further said, “I am also looking forward to my interactions with Indians living in South Africa, which has one of the largest diasporas outside India.”
What is G-20?
According to the G20 website, G20 members include the world’s largest economies, which represent 85 percent of global GDP, 75 percent of international trade and two-thirds of the world’s population. This includes Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, UK, US, European Union and African Union. The G-20 group promotes policy making on economic and financial issues, striving to tackle global challenges such as hunger, poverty and land degradation.
