President Murmu Angola-Botswana Visit: President Draupadi Murmu today, on Saturday, left for a six-day state visit to the African countries of England and Botswana. This visit is part of India’s efforts to open new avenues of cooperation and partnership with both the countries in the African region. This visit of President Murmu is special in many ways. This will be the first state visit of an Indian head of state to these countries.
Angola 50th anniversary of independence
In the first leg of her visit, Murmu will reach Angola’s capital Luanda and hold high-level meetings between November 8 and 11. She will be in Gaborone, the capital of Botswana, from 11 to 13 November. Murmu will hold bilateral talks with her Angolan counterpart Joao Manuel Goncalves Lourenco and participate in the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the African nation’s independence. She is also scheduled to address the Parliament of Angola and interact with members of the Indian community in that country. India and Angola are also celebrating the 40th anniversary of their diplomatic relations this year.

Friendship between India and Angola
“India and Angola enjoy extremely close ties of friendship and cooperation which are growing steadily in various fields. Our energy partnership with Angola is vibrant,” Sudhakar Dalela, Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, said at a press conference on Thursday. He said the visit will provide an opportunity to review the entire gamut of bilateral relations and expand mutually beneficial cooperation in areas such as agriculture, health, energy, trade and investment, technology, infrastructure development, defense and people-to-people contacts.
President will address the gathering in Botswana
Secretary Sudhakar Dalela said in Botswana, President Murmu will meet his Duma counterpart Gideon Boko and will also address the National Assembly in Gaborone. We are confident that the visit of Hon’ble President will further strengthen India’s long-standing cooperative relations with Angola and Botswana and open new avenues of cooperation and expansion of our partnership. In Botswana, enhancing cooperation between the two countries in the fields of trade, education, science and technology will also be discussed. Many high-level meetings and cultural programs will be organized during this visit.
