A senior official said that information was received about the presence of armed cadres associated with the banned United Kuki National Army (UKNA). On this basis, security forces launched an operation at around 5.30 am in Khanpi village under Henglep sub-division of the district. UKNA has not signed the suspension of operations agreement signed between the Centre, the state government, the Kuki and Zomi militant groups. The officer said that during the operation there was a fierce encounter between the army soldiers and the terrorists. The officer said four militants were killed during the encounter, while several others managed to flee the spot.

A statement issued by the Defense Department also said that on the morning of November 4, militants opened fire on an army contingent during an intelligence-based operation in Khanpi village, about 80 km west of Churachandpur. The statement said that four cadres of the terrorist group were killed in the exchange of fire between security forces and armed cadres of non-SAO militant group UKNA. The officer said that the operation is still going on and search operation is going on in the surrounding areas. Security forces have surrounded the area from all sides.
