Karnataka Congress: Congress general secretary and Karnataka in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala on Friday gave a stern warning to party MLAs and leaders against making any public statement on the leadership issue. Surjewala said that strict action will be taken against those who do not follow the order. This warning of the Congress General Secretary has come a day after many MLAs loyal to Shivakumar went to New Delhi. These MLAs had met the Congress high command, which is a sign of the growing power struggle within the ruling party in Karnataka. Surjewala also accused the BJP of running a malicious campaign against the Congress government in the state in collaboration with a section of the media.
State development model for the entire country
The veteran party leader claimed that the achievements of Congress in Karnataka are fantastic. Congress is implementing public welfare policies in the entire state. The development of the state has become a model for the entire country. He said that discussions were held with the CM and Deputy CM of Karnataka. Both the leaders agreed that the Karnataka BJP, in collaboration with a section of the media, was deliberately running a malicious campaign against Karnataka and its Congress government. Surjewala said that Congress has forbidden its MLAs from making any public statement on the issue of leadership. The leadership has taken note of the opinions of various party officials. Sources said that on Thursday, a minister of Shivakumar and some loyal MLAs went to New Delhi to meet top Congress leaders, indicating a power struggle in the ruling party.
Siddaramaiah will remain in office for five years
This development has happened a day after completion of two and a half years of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. After the declaration of assembly election results in May 2023, there was a tough competition for the post of Chief Minister between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar. Congress was successful in convincing Shivkumar and making him Deputy Chief Minister. There were some reports at that time that an agreement had been reached on the basis of “Rotational Chief Minister Formula”, according to which Shivakumar would become the CM after two and a half years, but this has not been officially confirmed by the party. However, Siddaramaiah rejected these reports and said that he will remain in the post for five years.
