Jagannath Temple Ratna Bhandar: The inventory of ‘Ratna Bhandar’, the precious treasure of Shri Jagannath Temple of Puri, is now going to be completed. The temple administration has decided that the work of complete counting and documentation of jewelery and precious items in this gem store, which has been restored after renovation, will be completed before April next year, i.e. before Akshaya Tritiya 2026. This meeting of the temple administration was chaired by Gajapati Maharaja Divyasingh Dev. After the meeting, Chief Administrator of SJTA (Shree Jagannath Temple Administration) Arvind Padhi said that all the jewelery of this world famous temple of 12th century has now been kept safe in Ratna Bhandar at its original place. After four decades, the doors of this treasury were opened in 2024. Now this store has been completely repaired by ASI.
How will the inventory be done?
Arvind Padhi told that the inventory will be done in a face-wise manner so that the daily routine and traditions of the temple are not affected. Along with this, every jewelery and valuable item will be recorded digitally. The temple administration aims to complete the entire work by Akshaya Tritiya (April 19, 2026), as the sacred process of chariot construction begins every year on this day. Apart from this, 522 silver ingots found from Emaar Math, whose value was said to be around Rs 90 crore, is also a big issue of this meeting. These ingots were found from the monastery after a theft attempt in 2011 and are currently safe in the district armory. However, the matter is pending in the High Court. In such a situation, the administration is exploring legal avenues so that the official ownership of these ingots can be transferred to the name of Lord Jagannath.

Emaar Math was established by philosopher and saint Ramanujacharya in 1050. This is in the south-east part of the Jagannath temple complex. This monastery has also presented its claim on these silver ingots, after which the matter reached the court. At the same time, it was also decided in the meeting that a new set of gold jewelery will be prepared for Lord Balabhadra, Goddess Subhadra and Lord Jagannath. For this, ‘Gold Alankar Daan Yojana’ will be started, in which devotees will be able to donate gold and silver as per their wish.

An initiative also came to light that soon devotees will be able to donate directly to God while withdrawing money from ATM. This facility will combine old tradition and new technology for the first time. Apart from this, it was decided to increase the amount of assistance for marriage of daughters from Rs 50 thousand to Rs 1 lakh. At the same time, the assistance for Bratghara Sanskar has been increased from Rs 20 thousand to Rs 50 thousand. Besides, the ‘Rath Yatra’ organized ahead of time by ISKCON was also discussed in this meeting. While these decisions of the temple administration will strengthen security and tradition, they will also work to modernize the experience of the devotees.
