ED Raid in Kolkata: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids in connection with irregularities in recruitment in South Dumdum Municipality of West Bengal. During the raid, ED seized Rs 45 lakh in cash, incriminating documents and digital devices. Officials of the agency’s Kolkata zonal office on Friday conducted search operations at 13 places in and around Kolkata, including the residence and firms of West Bengal Fire Minister Sujit Bose, in connection with the scam investigation. In a statement issued on Saturday evening, ED said that during the search, various incriminating documents, digital devices and cash worth Rs 45 lakh related to the property have been seized.

Strategy to create pressure before elections

Bose said that whenever elections approach, these raids are conducted. These raids are done to please the leaders of opposition parties. This is not a new thing. They have raided my properties earlier also and have not found anything objectionable against me. This is a strategy to create pressure before the elections. The minister claimed that ultimately the certificate of his honesty would be given by the public and not by any agency. Let the investigating agency do its work. We will do our work. They talk about corruption but do not present the necessary evidence. The public knows everything. They will give me my certificate.

Will resign if proven

He said that in January 2024, the ED searched some properties including the residence and an office of the TMC leader and interrogated him in the same case. After that 14-hour raid, the agency had seized some documents and the leader’s mobile phone, after which Bose had said that if the investigators proved that he had taken even a single rupee from the people in exchange for his ministerial services, then he would immediately send his resignation to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
