Odisha News: The matter became sensitive after the violence during Durga Puja immersion in Cuttack. Now a large number of police forces have been deployed in those areas of Cuttack where law and order can be challenged.

Odisha News : Violence between two groups erupted during the immersion of Durga Puja idol in Cuttack district of Odisha and only a few hours after that there was tension in Cuttack city on Sunday. After the violence erupted, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has called for a closure of 12 hours in the city on 6 October. Police said that there were clashes between Hathi Pokhari in Dargah Bazar area between 1.30 pm and 2 pm when the immersion procession was going towards Debigara on the banks of the Kathajodi River. According to officials, the violence erupted when some local people objected to saving music in loud voice during the procession.

After some time, confrontation changed

After registering objections to music, the debate soon turned into a conflict. Meanwhile, the mob started throwing stones and glass lyrics from the roofs on the procession. At the same time, many people including Cuttack DCP Rishikesh Gyan Dev were seriously injured. After this, the police used mild force to control the situation. During this time many vehicles and roadside stalls were also badly damaged. On the other hand, the program was interrupted for about three hours due to protests demanding immediate arrest of people involved in the attack by members of the puja committees. The police, who came to investigate, are now trying to identify other people based on CCTV footage, drone footage and statements of eyewitnesses.

Police forces deployed in sensitive areas

At the same time, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) accused of administrative failure and demanded immediate transfer of DCP and District Collector for inability to maintain law and order. Apart from this, VHP has also called for a bandh to register its protest. A VHP spokesperson said that even after many requests, the officials have failed to ensure peaceful immersion. Biju Janata Dal (BJD) blamed anti -social elements for trying to spoil communal harmony, while Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi assured strict action against those responsible and directed the officials to give free treatment to the injured as soon as possible. At the same time, a large number of police forces have been deployed in the sensitive areas of Cuttack and keeping in mind the situation, it has been decided to implement prohibitory orders for a few days. Senior officials are keeping a strict surveillance in this matter.
