Nitish Kumar, who was the Chief Minister of the state for the longest time, remained unperturbed by the criticism and the critics’ allegations that the BJP wanted to treat him like Shinde. The gesture was towards his former Maharashtra counterpart Eknath Shinde, who was ousted from power by the BJP after it outperformed Shiv Sena in the assembly elections in the western state. Born in 1951 in Bakhtiyarpur, Bihar, Nitish Kumar entered politics during the JP movement. He joined the Janata Party and contested his first assembly election in 1977, but lost. His first election victory came in 1985.
