Indian Navy: Anti-submarine warfare ship ‘Mahe’ was inducted into the Indian Navy on Monday. It is made of 80% indigenous material. This is the first warship of Mahe class, which has been built by Cochin Shipyard. It is capable of detecting enemy submarines in shallow waters and protecting sea routes. Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi said that INS Mahe will further strengthen the country’s maritime security. Said that there will also be a significant increase in the ability to strengthen coastal security and protect India’s maritime interests in the country’s vast coastal waters. On this occasion, General Dwivedi honored the Naval personnel who played an important role in the launching of the ship, with Chief of Army Staff citation. An army officer said that this spectacular achievement will be seen more in the coming days, because the level of coordination between the three armies is increasing. General Dwivedi said that the Indian Navy plays an important role in the neighboring as well as far-flung countries.
The ship is equipped with advanced weapons and sensors
The Army Chief said that the Mahe warship will remain in the first line of coastal defence. It will maintain constant surveillance on India’s maritime operational areas. It will also have coordination with large surface combat ships, submarines and aviation assets. Designed and built by Cochin Shipyard Limited, Kochi, INS Mahe is the lead ship of eight in her class. It represents India’s Self-reliant India initiative in naval ship design and construction. It is quite powerful, which is an important quality for dominance over coastal areas. The ship is designed to detect submarines, conduct coastal patrolling and secure India’s vital sea lanes. The Navy said that the ship, equipped with advanced weapons, sensors and communication systems, is capable of accurately detecting, tracking and neutralizing below-surface threats.
The ship’s mascot the cheetah symbolizes speed and focus.
The Navy said that this ship can operate for a long time in shallow water. It has technologically advanced machinery and control systems. The first Mahe class anti-submarine warfare shallow water ship equipped with torpedoes and anti-submarine rockets was handed over to the Navy on 23 October. The Navy said the commissioning of Mahe marks the arrival of the new generation of indigenous shallow water combat ships. The Navy said the Mahe-class frigate, with more than 80 per cent indigenous content, reflects India’s growing proficiency in warship design, construction and integration. The ship has ‘Urumi’ inscribed on its helm, named after the historic coastal city of Mahe on the Malabar Coast. The ship’s mascot, the cheetah, symbolizes speed and focus. While the motto ‘Silent Hunters’ reflects the stability, vigilance and indomitable readiness of the ship.
